🔏 Hash & Checksum

Hash text as you type or drop in a file, then paste the expected checksum (hex, Base64 or a SHA256SUMS line): the tool detects the algorithm and tells you whether it matches.

Paste the published checksum in any shape: hex in either case (spaces ignored), Base64 as used by SRI, “sha256:…”, a whole line of SHA256SUMS or the BSD “SHA256 (file) = …” form; the algorithm is read from the length (MD5 32 hex · SHA-1 40 · SHA-256 64 · SHA-384 96 · SHA-512 128). MD5 and SHA-1 are broken for security (collisions exist) — fine for checksums, never for passwords. HMAC applies to the SHA family (RFC 2104). CRC32 (IEEE, as in ZIP/PNG) is an error-detecting checksum, not cryptographic. Vectors: MD5(“abc”) = 90015098…, SHA-256(“abc”) = ba7816bf….
