Circle of fifths
A major chord stacks intervals 1-3-5 (4+3 semitones), a minor chord flips it to 1-♭3-5 (3+4). Neighbouring keys on the circle of fifths share 6 of 7 notes — that's why G and F feel so close to C. The pentatonic scale drops the two “tense” notes, which is why it never sounds wrong.
